NEXT CONCERT: Monday December 15 at 7pm: “Winter Express”

“Winter Express” A formal winter concert by the Penticton Concert Band

What to expect:
This 1.5 hour festive musical concert will take you on a creative train ride through France with Ravel’s Bolero, on to Spain with its passionate pasodoble and flamenco style piece by Carl Strommen, Fuego Del Alma (‘Fire of the Soul’). Next, to some of North America’s finest Concert Band composers: Richard Saucedo’s classical and jazzy fanfare ‘Song and Dance’ will leave you breathless with its great zest and zeal. James Swearingen’s Novena has our train swiching gears going uphill slow and steady and downhill with great spirit. Continuing on into Canada–have you been to the Saamis Tepee in sunny Medicine Hat? Samuel Hazo honours the empowering beats of the Drums of the Saamis First Nations of Medicine Hat Alberta and his ‘Mountain Thyme’ will restore your health with its sweet mountain air.  Eric Whitacre’s choral Christmas piece Lux Aurumque (‘Light and Gold”) will gently soothe you. Traveling into cozy winter, our concerts are never complete without a couple of notable movie medleys as well. The Young Person’s Guide to John Williams arranged by Jay Bocook has you soaring through the movie Hook into Harry Potter, from ET to the Raiders of the Lost Ark.  John Williams has a knack for taking you right inside these films with his complex, memorable works composed over a seven decade career. Hold onto your hats!

Why, there’s even a little jaunt on the Polar Express! Paul Murtha’s arrangement of Selections from The Polar Express composed by Glen Ballard and Alan Silvestri will take our train to the North Pole, of course!  All Aboooooooooaaaaard!
