Meet JUSTIN GLIBBERY, the new Director for the PENTICTON CONCERT BAND:
A Life in Music: Justin Glibbery grew up in Abbotsford where his love of music began. He started piano lessons at age seven but quit early on. By age 12, however, music had fully captured his heart.
“I started playing in my elementary school band in Grade 6, and that’s when the seed really took hold,” he said. “I wasn’t much of an athlete, so music became my thing. I loved it, and I stuck with piano all the way through to Grade 12. My parents were very supportive.”
After graduating from the University of Victoria’s teaching program, Glibbery began his career at Princess Margaret Secondary in Penticton. Following a brief stint in Kelowna, he joined Pen-Hi in 1994—and stayed for the next 31 years. He has very recently retired from this position but not from music…
His passion for both teaching and performing has never waned.
“I knew early on I wanted to keep playing, even while teaching,” he said. “I sang in choirs at university, played in bands, and never gave that up. I’ve always loved performing with the students—it’s a huge part of what makes this job special.” —source
JUSTIN GLIBBERY is also the Director for the Naramata Community Choir which rehearses on Tuesday evenings. The Penticton Concert Band is very proud to welcome him as the band’s new Director, replacing Dave Brunelle who will be joining the band as a musician.
It is fantastic to have such quality Directors who retire, but love it so much they don’t really leave the industry just change jobs. That’s passion for you.
