“100 Year Old Classics” is the title for the Penticton Concert Band’s Spring 2025 Concert. The band will be playing beloved concert band classics from the early 1900’s that have lyrical and expressive qualities, exceptional brass harmonies as well as playful parts you can imagine the merrymakers of that early 20th Century era to folk dance to. Imagine the sounds of the era at county fairs and watching parades. “Irish Tune from County Derry”, composed by Percy Grainger, gave rise “Danny Boy” which is loved the world over today. Vaughan Williams’ famous “English Folk Song Suite” is composed of two lively marches with a melodious intermezzo between them. And more! The works are challenging, energizing and a lot of fun to play.
It is an especially important concert for the band, because it is the last Penticton Concert Band’s formal, indoor, Spring Concert that our Director Dave Brunelle is conducting. He has held the position of our Director for twelve years since 2013 and we have thrived under his direction, enthusiasm and genuine love of the position. Thank you so much Dave! We have a talented new director joining us in September and Dave plans to join in as one of the fifty concert band musicians starting in September which makes us very happy.
We hope you’ll come support the band and especially Dave by being enthusiastic audience members for this momentous concert.
