Penticton Concert Band Spring 2024 Concert: Journey into the Elements May 7, 2024

NEXT CONCERT: Tuesday May 7: Journey into the Elements

PENTICTON CONCERT BAND is pleased to announce our Spring Concert:
‘Journey into the Elements’ on May 7th.
From upbeat and celebratory marches to renaissance music and pop hits, there is sure to be something for all the music lovers in the audience.  This concert title pays homage to one of the pieces titled “Elements”, by one of the composers the band really enjoys playing, Brian Balmages. This beautiful piece is made up of four exciting and breathtaking movements representing Air, Water, Earth and Fire.  John Mackey composed another unique piece in this concert: ‘Foundry’, an imaginative and fascinating percussion-focused piece that will show the audience that ordinary objects can serve the purpose of a percussion instrument.  What ‘instruments’ might we be playing in this piece?  As an interesting side note, this concert which will feature pieces by six composers from around the world all named John!  Did you know? Our band has recently grown, having welcomed dedicated and talented high school-aged musicians.  We can truly say the band spans all ages, from 13 to 85; we are proud to be such a true musical community! We look forward to playing our brand new music for you.

NEXT CONCERT: Tuesday April 12, 2022 “Con Brio: With Brilliance, With Spirit”

“Con Brio: With Brilliance, With Spirit” is the Penticton Concert Band’s theme at the Tues. April 12, 2022 Spring Concert. We are sparkling with energy and joy to play for you again after a covid-induced long hiatus from performing. The concert begins with a lively march titled “Con Brio” which means with brilliance, with spirit. It is appropriate to the way all the musicians in the band are feeling after having spent almost two years alone with their instruments rehearsing in private music rooms, some rehearsing and playing together in small, covid-friendly groups 6 feet apart. The band is glad to be back together as a whole and the arrival of spring brings out the best in each of us; the music notes dancing like blossoms in the April breeze. The concert promises to take you around the world on a music adventure, so please bring your family and best friends and come celebrate this spring concert with us.

“Programmatic Narratives” is the Penticton Concert Band’s theme at the December 17 Concert. From 3,2,1…(take off!), to the hissing sounds of clockwork and steam machines, to Sinbad the sailor and a dream coming true at a wishing well, the program’s pieces are delightful for the musicians to play and for the audience to listen to. NEXT CONCERT: Tuesday, December 18 2018 – Heyra

This is a year our approach to an original performance night is so unique that the title for it came to us as an exotic sounding word from a foreign language spoken thousands of miles away. “Heyra” is a word found in the Icelandic language which translated into English means “To Hear” or simply “Hear”. Music is a creative form of expression based on our sense of hearing. It is also an art that is attributed to creative interpretation. As part of this concert, we chose to re-familiarize music as a sense of foreign language. This is something we really would like you to enjoy as your own personal revelation and wish for you to experience throughout the evening. We are extremely excited and are looking forward to performing music for you on December 18th. As part of Christmas already dwelling within our minds and hearts, let us celebrate the end of the 2018 as another year draws to a close.
